W found out that some animals have a layer of fat called blubber which helps to keep them warm. We tested how this works by putting one bare hand into iced water and one hand between two bags of oil and into the water. The hand between the oil kept warm and the other one was freezing!
We have been practising our recognition of sounds and numbers and counting skills on the computer this week. We are getting better at controlling the mouse.
Identifying and sorting sounds
A very special bag turned up in P1 this week and we decided to see if we could work out who it might belong to. It was full of interesting things including an oil lamp, binoculars, a special map carrier and a balaclava. The children had some wonderful suggestions about what the objects were and who they might belong to. We concluded that the bag belonged to an Arctic explorer. We have decided that we would like to find out much more about the subject and have made 'Cold Lands' our new topic. We look forward to finding out lots of facts and investigating different aspects of this area in the coming weeks.
