Outdoor Curriculum

At Wallace Prep, we make the most of every opportunity to take learning outdoors. Whether it's moving literacy and numeracy lessons into the fresh air, exploring nearby Wallace Park, or taking part in our Forest School sessions, we know that meaningful learning doesn’t have to stay inside the classroom.
Outdoor learning is more than just a change of scenery—it brings real benefits. Time spent outside has been shown to:
-
Boost confidence, self-esteem, and independence
-
Encourage teamwork, cooperation, and a sense of responsibility
-
Strengthen problem-solving and decision-making skills
-
Spark creativity and independent thinking
We’re fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful green spaces, and our outdoor curriculum is designed to help children connect with nature in enjoyable and purposeful ways. Whether they’re cooking up imaginative meals in the mud kitchen, building dens, searching for mini-beasts, or growing fruit and vegetables in our garden and polytunnel, pupils are actively engaged and learning through hands-on experiences. We’re especially excited about our newly developed Forest School area, which offers even more opportunities for discovery and adventure.
As pupils move through the school, outdoor learning takes on new dimensions. Our older students look forward to residential trips filled with challenges that help them grow in resilience, teamwork, and confidence—all while creating lasting memories with friends.
